Halton Region’s Asset Management Policy is being updated.
Through completion of updates to Halton’s 2021 Asset Management Plan and departmental Master Plans, adaptation strategies are being identified to reduce vulnerability in municipal infrastructure to climate hazards such as extreme temperatures, heavy rainfall, seasonal flooding, and freeze-thaw cycles.
Climate change mitigation goals are being supported through the exploration of opportunities for greater energy efficiency of facilities, treatment plants, landfill sites, and fleet assets to reduce energy usage and through the consideration of green standards in the construction of new infrastructure and replacement of existing equipment.
A basic inventory of natural assets was developed in early 2025 that was included in the Council approved 2025 Asset Management Plan. The Region is committed to capturing additional natural asset attributes (e.g. value and condition) over the next few years.
Halton Region’s 2025 Asset Management Plan and Updated Asset Management Policy were approved by Regional Council in June 2025. The Plan and Policy included the consideration of climate impacts and environmental resiliency (i.e. adaptation) into asset management planning within Public Works’ risk management framework and capital programming process.
